    Description

Of all the miners, bankers, and businessmen who struck it rich in the California Gold Rush of the early 1850s, perhaps no greater fortune was eventually amassed than that of Levi Strauss. At first importing dry goods such as clothing and neckerchiefs into his store in San Francisco, Strauss and longtime customer Jacob Davis went into business together in the early 1870s, and their company was the first to patent and manufacture riveted blue jeans, a vital peace of miner's workwear. Those garments have been of great interest to vintage clothing enthusiasts for decades, leading Michael Allen Harris to write an authoritative reference book on the subject in 2010, revised into a 2nd edition in 2016. This "JEANS OF THE OLD WEST" VINTAGE LEVI DENIM BUCKLEBACK WORK WEAR PANTS REFERENCE BOOK is in near mint, unread condition, with only some light scattered storage wear evident (most pictured). Otherwise, the book is in near mint shape, with no other damage. Most interestingly, it boasts an elegantly illustrated dust jacket over hardcovers, and sports 192 pages full of descriptive text, period pictures, and color photographs of 19th century work pants produced by Levi Strauss, Greenebaum Brothers, Neustadtler Brothers, Meyerstein & Lowenberg, Banner Brothers, Yung Chow, and other manufacturers, as well as a synopsis of the early clothing industry in San Francisco, the differences between pre-1873 and post-1890 work pants, the manufacturing process and wear patterns of those antique jeans, and additional clothing and personal items from the Old West. A beautiful example of a "JEANS OF THE OLD WEST" VINTAGE LEVI DENIM BUCKLEBACK WORK WEAR PANTS REFERENCE BOOK. Now celebrating over 20 years on eBay.
